Spiritualism is a Science; is a Philosophy; and is a Religion.

It is a science in that it is a system of organised knowledge based on experiments and proven facts. Through communication which is received we have proved the fact that the spirit or soul lives on and can return with information proving its survival.

Spiritualism teaches that everyone survives physical death regardless of their religion, race and character.

Spiritualist Mediums do not call up spirit people, but those spirits wishing to communicate do so when they choose.

The primary object of the Spiritualists' National Union is to promote the advancement and diffusion of a knowledge of the religion and religious philosophy of Spiritualism on the basis of the Seven Guiding Principles. It aims to unite Spiritualist societies and churches into a Spiritualist brotherhood and to secure for them full recognition as religious bodies.

Other objects specified in the Memorandum of Association include the;

  • Encouragement of Spiritualist Research
  • Certification and Appointment of Ministers, Lecturers, Exponents and Teachers
  • Publication and Distribution of Spiritualist Literature
  • Promotion of Mission Work.

The Spiritualists National Union has an education and training programme and members can achieve awards in many areas. It has taken a leading part in the foundation of the International Spiritualist Federation, which unites Spiritualists of many countries.

Membership of the Eltham Spiritualist Church is open by invitation from the Committee to everyone who accepts the Seven Guiding Principles. The Church actively seeks to raise funds for other charities, as well as for itself. The affairs of the Church are administered by a Committee of twelve elected members controlled by all members in general meeting. The Committee listens to comments and suggestions from the membership and visitors, and will act upon them whenever possible.
